We had such a great time in Meridian last week! There was lots of family time, fishing and a TON of awesome food! I took over 275 pictures, so here's my favorites with stories attached....
Our flight left at 2:50, right about Amberly's nap time. I was kind of worried about her, but she did awesome! We gave her a bottle at take off and she ate some puffs during the flight which seemed to help a lot with her ears.
What also helped us was this sweet little girl that was sitting in front of us. This was taken while we were waiting to get off the plane, but the little girl would peek threw the seats, or stick her hand threw them to try and get to Amberly, so she kept Ambs entertained as well. She did not want to leave Amberly and still played with her while we were getting our bags and car seat!
Uncle Glen (Danny's Great Uncle) picked us up from the airport and Amberly greeted him with stretched out arms like HOLD ME Uncle Glen (whom she's never met) and it was so cute! It was about an hour and a half drive to Meridian. We made a stop at Wal-Mart to get diapers, formula, food, etc and we were met at the house by Danny's Aunt Joyce, Theresa and Tony (Danny's dad's cousins).
Uncle Glen warned us about his "ugly" coffee table because it didn't look like it usually does....haha - he's so cute, he put duct tape and some piping on the edges of the table so she wouldn't hurt herself. They have a 2 year old Great-Grand Baby so their house was totally set up for a baby. They had a pack n play, a high chair, strollers, and lots of new, fun toys for Amberly to play with.
I didn't take a pic of our 1st dinner....wish I would've....but it was SO DELISH.....we had pot roast, homemade mashed potatoes, black eyed peas, butter beans, corn bread, and a cherry crunch dessert.....omg I was in Heaven! I have heard about their Mississippi or {Miss-ippi as they say} cooking for awhile now and they did not disappoint!
Friday morning Uncle Glen, Danny and I headed down to the pond for some fishing. We didn't catch anything but a little Brim, which is what they sometimes use as bait. Amberly hung out with Aunt Joyce.
Friday night there was one heck of a rain storm....Amberly loves the rain and she wanted to touch it.
That night we all went to Aunt Doris and Uncle Donald's house down the road....this was dinner that night.....no lie, I prob gained more than a couple lbs on this trip, but it was SO worth it....and that steak, sorry you PETA people out there, came from Uncle Donald's heard of cows.....mmm mmm mmm....and that's Ambs dinner back there too.... I almost forgot, their tomatoes we TO DIE FOR - I have no idea how or why they were so good, besides the fact that they were fresh out of the ground, but they were the best tomatoes I have ever had in my life, hands down.
Uncle Donald has so many acres of land and cows I can't remember what Danny said, but it is the most gorgeous land with 2 ponds, and such pretty hills everywhere - certainly not like Texas. Here's Amberly with Uncle Donald. We were trying to get the cows to come up to the fence, but we had no such luck.
Saturday morning we got up BRIGHT and EARLY to go fishing....we thought since we went out at 8am the day before that's why we didn't catch anything....so we went down to the pond at 6:30 AM! Amberly was still sleeping and trust me, I wanted to still be sleeping too - but catching THIS fish was too much fun! He/She weighed 5.9 lbs and I was proud of catching it :) Danny and Uncle Glen caught 2 fish too, but mine was the biggest! We had a fish fry that evening lol....that will be in my Part II post.
After fishing, we came back and had biscuits, bacon, and eggs for breakfast and then headed to Uncle Donald and Aunt Doris' to spend some time with them during the day. While Amberly napped there, Uncle Donald, Danny and I went out to explore all of his land. Donald rode a 4 wheeler and Danny and I were on a thing called a Mule not sure of how it's spelled but its the thing in the pic below....Here's some of Donald's cows. They were so calm and quiet...I kinda wanted to hear a bunch of "Mooooooooooos"
Riding threw the land - it was SO fun, even though I was scared at times of Danny's driving, a cow coming too close, or seeing a snake or something.
They also had some donkeys. We forgot the bread to feed them, so I tried to give them some fish food, but they're not fish, so they didn't like it. Aren't they cute!
It is so pretty there, its just open fields for miles and so quiet!
This cow, I think it's "the bull"....that impregnates FORTY mama cows, wanted to take a bath....I was in shock when I found that out. He's got 4 bulls (males) and the rest of the cows there are females. So I guess he's got about 160 cows, can't remember.
Triple D Farm for Donald, Doris and DeNay (their daughter)
Ambs having some lunch after her nap, hanging with DeNay....love her little pose lol
Aunt Doris gave her some lemon cake, and let me tell you, she did NOT like that lemon, at all haha Doris kept saying "this is grandpa's favorite cake, you should like it" - Danny's dad's fav....but she did not care, she was not liking it.
More Family, Fishing and Food to come!
