Family Fishing and Food Part II

Part II of our Mississippi trip......

After hanging out with Donald, Doris and DeNay, we went back to Glen and Joyce's to get ready for a Fish Fry.  I have never had fried fish, not really a fish fan, but I figured I would try this out.  Here's Joyce and I mixing up the hush puppy batter....and Ambs hanging out having some puffs and watching.

Uncle Glen was the cook Saturday night...he filled his pot with peanut oil and began battering everything up.

Danny and Amberly exploring the "unknown" - lol  They're walking down by where the pond is.

After letting the fish cool, Uncle Tony gave her a tiny little bite of fish only, none of the fried part.  She liked it.

Playing with some toys, love those little feet!

Aunt Joyce, Aunt Doris, me, Amberly and Theresa

Love this!  She was giggling at Theresa

Look at all the food!  Fried Catfish, Jalapeno and plain hush puppies, french fries and a blueberry/pineapple crunch for dessert.

My plate - the fish wasn't too bad.  It was a little too much fried food at one time for me, but was ok.

Everyone at dinner at our table, there were 5 or 6 more people in at the kitchen table.

Sunday morning, we put Amberly in a Gator outfit since everyone there is either a Mississippi State or Alabama fan, her Grandpa was so proud!

Sunday morning we went down to the pond for some fishing and shooting.

This will be Danny and I, 50 years from now, just sitting on the dock fishing.

There was a bottle he was shooting at, but it was starting to sink lol

Uncle Glen showing me how.  I actually made my bottle target sink too!  Glen said "I wouldn't want to mess with her"  ha!

Then there was our Sunday "goodbye" lunch....OMG.....look at all that!  Honey baked ham, chicken and rice pilaf, black eyed peas, homemade cream potatoes and mac and cheese, green beans and cornbread....and brownies for dessert.....

And stuffed eggs for an appetizer....like deviled eggs, but Aunt Joyce adds shredded cheddar cheese and bacon bits....mmmmmm SO GOOD!

Everyone said Danny and I ate like birds, but I felt like a total fattie the whole time!

Group pic before we left!  Aunt Joyce told me before lunch that she was worried about a "City Girl" coming...that being me, but that I fit in just right.  I fished, shot guns, and was a "Country girl" for a few days, she's so cute!

We're almost home!!!!!  Another successful plane ride!

Family photo!  Amberly looks like a little boy here lol

And Amberly's favorite person met us at the airport.....back with Grandpa Tom.  We headed home and came back to a refrigerator that had gone out.  Lovely.  The repair people are coming today finally to see what's wrong with it.

Hope you guys are having a great week so far!

  1. Great posts. Papa Joe would think he had died and gone to Heaven with all that food! I hope you are saving hard copies of these posts for Amberly to read sometime in the future.

  2. That food! Oh my gosh- it's just like the huge meals I became accustomed to in South Carolina! Sooo yummy...you have to love a cuisine that has "Macaroni and Cheese" and "Mashed Potatoes" on their VEGGIE list! :)

  3. Now I'm hungry! We love to visit those folks...for the laughter, food, fishing and great people. We knew you would love them, too. I'm glad you passed the gun test...I had to take it 33 years ago before I was allowed into the family :)
